Also, I should mention that another place that I frequent is www.dafont.com. Not only can you search the thousands of free fonts that they have but you can type in what lettering you are going to need it for so that you can see a preview. This may not be much use to anyone who does not do graphic design but for those of us who dabble and do not want to create our own typeface from scratch this is a great resource.
